TradeWinds (newspaper)
Encyclopedia
TradeWinds is a critical and independent business news provider, publishing both an online newspaper
and a printed weekly newspaper. TradeWinds is owned by NHST Media Group
. Headquartered in Oslo, it covers shipping as a global industry with full time staff correspondents in all the major centers of the industry. The newspaper was founded in 1990 to compete with well-established rivals including UK-based Lloyd's List
and Fairplay.
The newspaper covers all aspects of shipping, but focuses especially on news related to owners and the commercial side of the industry. The coverage includes newbuildings, sale and purchase activities, chartering, scrapping, but also marine insurance and casualties. Exclusive news stories and special reports are central to each week’s issue, but financial information is also vital with a dedicated stock watch section, with market analysis and price information both in the weekly hard copy edition and on the daily internet news site. Focus is given to the main trades such as tankers, bulkers and boxships, but TradeWinds also gives comprehensive coverage of reefers, LNG/LPG as well as the offshore supply trade.
As of late 2008, TradeWinds had full-time reporters based in Shanghai, Singapore, New Delhi, Athens, Genoa, Oslo, Stamford and London (the largest office).
In 2000, TradeWinds added an online edition which is continuously updated five days a week from Singapore, London and New York. Its content is largely separate from that of the weekly print edition but both channels are accessible to subscribers through the same website. TradeWinds is published on paper every Friday and offers news and features in a comprehensive package. TradeWinds has a separate editorial team for its online news, keeping subscribers up-to-date with what is happening in the global shipping world news as it happens in the different time-zones throughout the day.
