Overview

Trade, Law and Development focuses on issues of relevance to the international economic order, legal system and development, as well as policy issues. TL&D is the first journal in the field of international economic law and policy to use an open source publishing software. It is also the only Indian law journal to employ an open source journal publishing system (OJS).

TL&D seeks to generate and sustain a democratic debate on issues of international economic law and governance, of relevance to the developing world in particular. The Journal is a signatory to the Budapest Open Access Initiative and is indexed on the PKP-Open Archives Harvester2 archive. In addition, contents of TL&D are available on the HeinOnline database (under a Creative Commons license). TL&D publishes "Articles", "Notes", "Comments", and "Book Reviews". The journal was founded by Shashank P. Kumar (B.Sc., LL.B. (Hons.), Nat. Law Univ. '10; LL.M., Yale '11). The founding staff members included: Shashank P. Kumar, R. Gopalakrishnan, Aditi Patanjali, Manu Sanan, Meghana Sharafudeen, Prateek Bhattacharya, Aman Bhattacharya and Lakshmi Neelakantan. The current staff (2011-12) includes: Prateek Bhattacharya, Jayant Raghu Ram, Aman Bhattacharya, Shreya Munoth, Lakshmi Neelakantan, Meghana Chandra, Prianka Mohan, Neha Reddy, Paarth Singh, Namratha Amarnath, Ali Amerjee and Nakul Nayak. Shashank Kumar, Meghana Sharafudeen and R.Gopalakrishnan are the consulting editors to the journal.

Trade, Law and Development is a bi-annual journal published in yearly volumes of two issues each. Apart from the journal website, where all works are available for free and open access as soon as each issue is published, each issue of TL&D is published in hard-copy, as well. Apart from the regular issues, the Journal publishes a special issue each year on a relatively under-explored topic or issue of contemporary relevance to the developing world. Previous special issues have covered areas such as International Investment Law. The 2011 Special Issue focuses on "Third-World Approached to International Law" (TWAIL). The 2012 Special Issue is dedicated to "Dispute Settlement at the WTO".
