 district, with 42 floors. The building was completed in 1977. It currently stands as the ninth-tallest building in France. The top 10 floors are occupied by Radisson Blu Hotel Lyon, the highest hotel in Europe.The rest of the floors are office space.

It is a work of the American firm Araldo Cossutta & Associates and was constructed between 1972 and 1977. It is the tallest skyscraper in France that is not located in Ile-de-France. According to the wishes of the architect, the top of this tower is roughly the same height as the Notre Dame de Fourviere. At its opening in 1977, it was the 4th tallest building in France and is currently the 10th. The tower has a cylindrical shape. It is topped by a 23 metre high pyramid.

On the occasion of its 31st anniversary, the tower changed its name and logo. On 22 September 2008, the building is officially named Tour Part Dieu. The logo will not forget the nickname "The Pencil" as which it is affectionately known from the beginning.

This zone is served by the Gare Part-Dieu - Vivier Merle station on the metro line

History

As part of the implementation of Part-Dieu central business district, it was decided to build an office tower to "signal the presence of the district" and "materialize the virtual axis composition that is imagines extended east to Skyscraper of Villeurbanne". The tower was inaugurated in 1977. This construction has proved disastrous economically and hindered the development of the whole area during the ten years since its inauguration.

Technical details

Each floor covers a 115m ² for a total area of 37 000m ². Parking of two- hundred - twenty seats are located in the basement. The main entrance of the tower is located on the slab of the Part-Dieu, while the entrance of the hotel is located at the rue Servient.

Today

The seven floors of the building are occupied by a hotel operator whose current Radisson (formerly Le Meridien), the other floors are offices . The summit hotel has a panoramic restaurant and bar at 32e floor, accessible by elevator directly separated from those leading to the office floors . Above, the tower is carved on ten floors : the rooms themselves are located around a central shaft which transmits light from the transparent pyramid just above it .

Currently , the tower is the tallest building in theGreater Lyon. However , a proposed skyscraper, called Tour Incity measuring 200 meters , pushing the tower of Credit Lyonnais in second place .

The Oxygen Tour Inaugurated in 2010, combined the "pencil " . Indeed , the second highest tower in Lyon ( 115 meters ). Commissioned in April 2010 , it has at its feet, a shopping center, Oxygen CoursesMainly devoted to home furnishings , and whose paths are connected to Mall of the Part-Dieu which opened its doors in 1975 .

Tour Part-Dieu in popular culture

Besides the fact that it is nicknamed the "pencil", the tower has inspired several items including a chocolate-shaped tower of Credit Lyonnais. It is composed of black chocolate more than 70% of cocoa Of maraschino (bitter cherry liqueur), the cherries candied and chocolate milk.

It also appeared on the front of postcards of the city, but also a form of humorous newspaper / magazine or on the local Little Paumé, for the tower forming part of the city became one of its most representative monuments.
