Early years

Tor Thodesen began his coaching career as a goalkeeper coach in FC Lyn Oslo in 1990. In 1994, he started working for Vålerenga, where he worked to 1998. Between 1998 and 2002, he was Teitur Thordarson's assistant coach in Flora Tallinn

But after the cup final, Sandefjord stopped winning matches. In the next 30 leaguematches, Sandefjord won 5. They were relegated to the Adeccoligaen, and Thodesen got fired on May 7th 2008, the day after a humiliating loss to Notodden

 took Sandefjord to a 15th place in Adeccoligaen.

On the 31 Oktober 2008, Thodesen signed for the Norwegian Second Division

 club FK Tønsberg, and the goal was promotion to the Adeccoligaen. After two years, he left FK Tønsberg stating that "the current economic situation in the club does not allow a full time coach".
