Black signed for newly promoted Leigh RMI
in June 2000 and was paired with Steve Jones in the club's attack for the forthcoming season in the Football Conference
. Black had a very successful season with The Railwaymen, scoring 12 league goals that went a long way into firing RMI to a fifth place finish in the Conference, the club's highest ever league finish.
The following season saw RMI in a relegation fight and Black was forced down the pecking order at the club with the arrival of Dino Maamria
and Michael Twiss
. Despite this Black still managed 6 league goals which helped RMI to safety.
Black started the 2002-03 season at Leigh but despite scoring one goal early in the season, he moved on to Accrington Stanley
on 27 September 2002. He only spent 3 months at Stanley before moving to Stalybridge Celtic
on 9 January 2003. He played for Celtic until the end of the season until he was released by the club and he retired from football shortly afterwards.
