Another Boston fan heard DeCarlo's work and suggested that he send his Myspace page link to a Boston associate, offering up an old email address DeCarlo sent the link, and was approached by Boston leader Tom Scholz

In March 2008, Scholz asked DeCarlo to be one of the lead singers during Boston's 2008 tour. DeCarlo is currently on leave from his job as a credit manager for a Home Depot in Charlotte, North Carolina

In January 2011, Tommy released his first two singles of original music, available on CD-Baby and iTunes, though his website www.TommyDeCarlo.com. The first single, "I Think I Fell In Love With You", features Boston alumni Gary Pihl on guitar. The second single is a reworked and expanded version of "A Man He'll Always Be" which initially had been a piano and vocal composition. The new version was expanded into a complete Boston tribute featuring full instrumentation.
