Foundation

Tomlinson Middle School was established in 1957 and was open for students in 1957-1958. The first principal A. Richardson. He was the principal until 1964. Tomlinson Middle School was named after William Earl “Curlee” Tomlinson. He gave the land to Lawton Public Schools on which the school sits. There were 32 faculty members in the first year. The Superintendent of Lawton Public Schools at the time that the school was opened was John D. Shoemaker. Tomlinson Middle School was the conference champions in the Junior Boomer Conference in 1957. Tomlinson also had a Hi-Lite club which was like the news team.

Construction and reconstruction

The building price was $1,793,929.67. The building was 52 rooms. In 1991 the building was deemed unsafe due to the buckling foundation contributed to the Meers Fault part of the Pennsylvanian Frontal Fault System that stretches from the southeast to the northwest through south central and southwest Oklahoma into the Texas Panhandle. It was 34 years old when reconstruction started. The students went to different public schools throughout Lawton.
Reconstruction was finished in 1995. It took a total of 4 years to rebuild. The price of reconstruction today would be around $4,300,000 The reconstructed school has over 90 rooms in the building (there are closet-like rooms all throughout the building) plus 4 portables and two gyms (big and little).

Academics

The academics at Tomlinson include the five basic subjects--- English, math, reading, science, and social studies/ history. Tomlinson also has programs such as Gifted & Talented, the Mentorship program, the Middle LEAP, Saturday School, Skills for Success, Student Assistance Program, Title I and Title IV. There are also many electives students may choose from.

Tomlinson offers some AP classes. Eighth graders are allowed to take Pre-AP English. Although only eighth graders, they are also allowed to take Algebra I.

Each grade has required classes. The sixth grade required classes are English, reading, math, science, and world studies. Sixth graders can choose from about eleven electives. English/ Pre-AP English, reading/ Pre-AP reading, mathematics/ Pre-Algebra, science, world geography, and skills for adolescence are the required classes for the seventh grade. They can choose from about eleven electives. Eighth grade required classes are English/ Pre-AP English, reading/ Pre-AP reading, mathematics/ Algebra I, science/ honors science, American history. Eighth graders can choose from about thirteen electives.

At the end of each year, every grade has to take certain CRT

tests. Sixth grade has to take the reading and the mathematics CRT test. The seventh grade has to take the CRT test in reading, mathematics, and world geography. Eighth graders are special. They have to take the reading, mathematics, science, American history, and the writing CRT tests.

In 2008, the passing percent of the math CRT test for the sixth grade was 83%. The seventh grade had 84%, and the eighth grade had 87%. The passing percent of reading CRT test for the sixth grade was 83%. The seventh grade was 79% and the eighth grade had 81%. The eighth grade also held a 92% in science, a 71% in U.S. History, and an 88% in writing. TMS average GPA is 2.89. 95% of TMS students are passing based on students failing two classes 1st semester.

Sports

It was hard for the No team to repeat what they did the year before. winnig every game they played included tournaments they won their games by more than 17.9 points per game. they had 4 really good players like Quinton Paras, Delvonte Pierre, Dalvin Henderson, and Braylon Freeman, Isiah Ervin that was their fab 4
Tomlinson Middle School 7th and 8th grade boys basketball beat every team on their schedule. The boys won the 08 Chickasha tournament. The team record for the season was 11- 8 which was a winning record. Tevin Foster has game, and he dropped 20 points a game points in a single game. Devon Woods the teams small forward went off and dropped 45 points.

The 8th grade girls for basketball had a real off season for basketball. They didn’t win many games, but they used good teamwork. The 7th grade girls won many games and finished with a winning record along with the 7th grade boys.The 6th grade girls A-team 2008 season made history by being the 1st 6th grade girls to play for Tomlinson and go undefeated the A-team girl were Taniya Juarez,Taylor Smith,Victoria Vaughn, Shanieca Wilson,Chaleala Henning,and Bailee Cox.

8th grade boys have some real athletic runners and got 1st and 2nd and every track meet they went to in 08. Girls track was similar to the boys. They won many track meets and had athletic runners also. The 7th grade boys and girls are coming up from 6th grade and hope to have an outstanding track season.

But these are only a few sports at Tomlinson Middle School here are more sports at TMS. Baseball, football, and wrestling. The sports coordinator is Dennis Totte. Baseball is one of our top sports, the head coach is Scott Wattson and his assistant Cody Brooks. There will be a team of 25 which includes JV and Varsity. The team colors are white and green.

Football is the next most popular sport at Tomlinson Middle School. The head Coach is Roy Burk he has been teaching for 24 years and there has been three tournament championships during that time. The assistant Coaches are Sean Laura, Scott Wattson, and Reggie Ervin. The most popular sports would be football and basketball equally. The seventh grade football team went undefeated and the eight grade had a winning season. The sixth grade football team went (3-3)in the 2008 season. The best records we have had is one year undefeated in basketball and one year undefeated in football.

The wrestling team was city champs. They beat Ike and Mac. The head wrestling Coach is coach Smith, his assistant Coaches are Coach Kim , Coach Johnson and Coach Neighbors. The wrestling team combines with Central's wrestling team to get the best team in Lawton.

not only did tomlinson's 7th grade team go unbeat once, but twice in their football career. This is very opinionated...

Clubs and organizations

Tomlinson Middle School has had many various clubs and organizations. Most of the clubs have died out by now, but some of them still remain. Examples of some of the older clubs would be Future Homemakers of America, Pep Club, Hi-Lite Club, and Library Club. More recent clubs and organizations would be Creative Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes(FCA), and Family Career Community Leaders of America. Organizations and clubs that are still here today are National Junior Honor Society, Band, Choir, Orchestra, Art Club, and Yearbook. You can not be ineligible to participate in most of these extra curricular clubs or organizations. Some clubs go on field trips, such as National Junior Honor Society (if they complete their community service hours). Fellowship of Christian Athletes also have field trips too. Creative Club may not go on field trips, but they do other things. Such as creating a literary magazine. They write poetry, stories, and draw anime pictures. In conclusion, Tomlinson Middle School has a lot going on.

Faculty

The people on our faculty and staff are all certified staff. We also have a lot of positions, such as Certified staff: teachers, counselors, administrators, librarians; Classified staff: secretaries, custodians, teachers aids, cafeteria staff. Our principals in the past were: A. Richardson, Garland Curtis, Dale Garret, Butch Edwards, Jerry Boucher, Jimmy Jones and last but not least Dick Adams. Our principal now is Laura Puccino.
