The name has mainly been found in Devon and Cornwall since the 17th century, however the surname is also known in the Southern Ulster counties of County Antrim and County Down, many descendants of these Northern Irish Toman families settled on the mainland in Lancashire, Manchester, North and East London, Coventry, Liverpool and in the North East of England during the 19th century and early 20th century. The afore mentioned areas along with Devon and Cornwall being the main demographic areas where the name still exists today.
