The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is an independent agency of the United States government that was established by the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974 from the United States Atomic Energy Commission, and was first opened January 19, 1975...

(NRC) and binding on all persons and organizations who receive a license from NRC to use nuclear materials or operate nuclear facilities. Licensing is required for the design, manufacture, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear reactors. These facilities can be commercial, research or test reactors. The authority is broad covering the licensure of individual facilitatory operators to the entires which operate these facilities.

Parts 200 to 1099 are the requirements (and reserved for the requirements) prescribed by the United States Department of Energy (DOE).

Parts 1300 to 1399 are the requirements (and reserved for the requirements) prescribed by the United States Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board.

Parts 1700 to 1799 are the requirements (and reserved for the requirements) prescribed by the United States Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).

Parts 1800 to 1899 are the requirements (and reserved for the requirements) prescribed by the United States Northeast Interstate Low-Level Radioactive Waste Commission.
