Pattiera was a handsome man with an exceptional, dark heroic tenor voice, that was, some say, perfectly suited for roles like Manrico in Il trovatore

On occasion compared with Caruso, Pattiera acquired quite an audience in 1920s. Right about that time he partnered Meta Seinmeyer and was greatly responsible for a resurgence of interest in Giuseppe Verdi

It is unknown why this world class tenor never performed in HNK (Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb). Pattiera died in 1966 and is buried in his hometown of Cavtat.
