, where, after starting as a record librarian and tech-op, he was given the opportunity to present the Sunday morning early show. In November 1986, he took over an early morning pre-breakfast show slot which was also simulcast on the Bury St Edmunds station Saxon Radio. After favourable listening figures, in 1988, he was offered the role of breakfast show presenter on Saxon Radio.

Gough took a brief career break in 1989 to go travelling. In 1991 he rejoined Radio Orwell on the early evening show. Shortly after, the station was re-launched as SGR-FM, where Gough was to present the afternoon show and Top 20 Plus show on Saturday lunchtimes.

He moved to the East Midlands

 following its 2003 launch, and was one of its regular presenters, hosting the afternoon drivetime show. He was also part of the inaugural line-up at Saga's replacement, 106.6 Smooth Radio

. After initially presenting the afternoon show from 1-4pm, he was appointed Programme Controller of the station and replaced by Eamonn Kelly

towards the end of 2007. Over a year later at the start of 2009 he returned to the airwaves to present the afternoon show once again. He is due to leave Smooth Radio on 25 June 2010 to be replaced be Terry Underhill on the 28th June 2010. Tim has now left Smooth to return to his home town.
