Actor/Singer Dave Nelson, who plays Sammy, was known previously as David Clark, one half of the singing comedy duo "Crocker & Clark" --- they were huge in Australia in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The other partner, of course, was Barry Crocker, who found fame in the record-breaking films The Adventures of Barry McKenzie and Barry McKenzie Holds His Own in the early 1970s.

Unfortunately, David was managed by the notorious gangland thugs, the Kray twins, and he left England hurriedly to escape the advances of Ronnie Kray. His one-off movie career seems to have finished at that point.
(This information supplied by Barry Hugh Crocker, more fascinating background on David Clark appears in the soon-to-be-published book BARRY CROCKER - LAST OF THE ENTERTAINERS)
