History
Thorpe Hall School was founded in 1925 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, as a Preparatory School for young boys aged 3 to 13. It was housed at the southern end of Thorpe Hall Avenue in the area known as Thorpe Bay until it moved permises in 1989 to Wakering Road.Today
The school currently educates girls and boys from Nursery (age 2) to GCSE (age 16). Facilities include a Nursery with outdoor learning area, a wilderness area for Forest Schooling, three purpose built classroom blocks including a Design and Technology workshop, an Art Studio, a Food and Textiles studio, a full equipped Theatre seating 250 people, 11 acres of land including a 7 acre field for Rugby and Football plus an all-weather cricket strip. The curriculum broadly follows the National Curriculum for England but also includes opportunities to play golf, tennis, squash, badminton, basketball and hockey and the chance to go horse riding, sailing and swimming. GCSE subjects taught are Maths, English, Literature, Science, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Music, Drama, Art, Resistant Materials, Product Design, Food Technoloy, Textiles, Business Studies and Media Studies. The school is non-selective and offers means tested bursaries.Facilities
