in 1986. During this time, Tom joined the Wall Street firm Prudential Securities while his prior Sullivan Group partners started their own advisory firm.
After a series of brokerage firm mergers and the transition of the group between different brokerage houses, Tom Sullivan retired from The Sullivan Group of Wachovia Securities in 2007 to pursue his media career at FOX in New York City. The remaining eight group members, including his son and Vice President Brad Sullivan CFP, left The Sullivan Group of Wachovia Securities to join The Sullivan Group at Morgan Stanley.
In September 2009, two of Tom's former partners left Morgan Stanley to start their own advisory firm under the same name, while the remaining five members, including Brad Sullivan, stayed with The Sullivan Group at Morgan Stanley and changed their name to Sullivan Wealth Management Team.
As of 2010, both separate teams, "Sullivan Wealth Management Team at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney" and the independent advisory firm "The Sullivan Group" operate out of Roseville, California; a suburb near Sacramento. While Tom's son Brad and his team are with Morgan Stanley, there is no "Sullivan" associated with the other advisory group made up Tom's two former partners.
