Administrators

The principal is Mr. Ken Harper, assisted by assistant principals Mr. Lee Bailey, Mrs. Trista Jones, and Ms. Karen Jones.

Departments

Departments include Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and the Tech/Career Prep area. Tech/Career Prep includes Agriculture, Broadcasting, Health Occupations, and Business (Computers).

Mathematics Department courses include Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, and Basic Math. The Chair is Ms. Constance Hudson who also chairs the AP Human Anatomy class which is available to grades 10 through 12.

Science Department courses include Biology, Earth Sciences, Physics, and Chemistry. The chair for 2008-2009 is Ms. Michelle McCorkle.

The Language Arts Department has Ms. Laura Parkerson as Chair).

The Social Studies Department teaches history classes. The department is chaired by Ms. Leigh Barwick.

The Agricultural Department has access to two John Deere Tractors, one John Deere "Gator", three "mobile classrooms" (trailers), and numerous implements. Some of the courses offered in the agricultural department are Ag Mech Tech I, Ag Mech Tech II, Ag Crop Production and Management, Forestry.

The Business Department is mainly made up of computer classes housed in computer labs throughout the school.

The Health Occupation Department trains students who have an interest in the medical field including the CNA-Certified Nursing Assistants program. These students will learn to be nurses in the future.

The Construction Department teaches all construction related courses.

The Broadcasting and Video Production Department is headed by Mr. Randy Young. Over 160 students learn how to produce television programs, including operation of the 13x9 foot instant replay screen at the Jackets Nest stadium, being a part of the daily "News 4 You" program, or being a part of the hour long "Yellow Jacket Tailgate Show" on the radio in the fall before broadcasts of TCCHS football. Mr. Young is known as "The Voice of the Yellow Jackets," and has called Central football games since 1986. He is a weekly columnist with the Thomasville-Times Enterprise newspaper.

In the Family and Consumer Sciences Department Ms. Gale Stewart is Chair of the Career and Technology department along with her duties as a teacher. Classes such as Home Economics, Interior Design, and Early Childhood Education dominate the curriculum.

The Fine Arts Department includes band, music, drama, and art classes. The Chair is Mr. Michial Mayhall.

The Physical Education Department handles athletics and health classes. Th Chair is Bill Wilhelm.

The Foreign Education Department teaches French and Spanish classes. Mr. Anthony Paulino chairs the department.

Special Education staff include Ms. Sheila Moon and Ms. Susan Blackburn (co-Chairs).

9th Grade Academy

From the 2006-2007 school year, all incoming freshmen are housed in the FOCUS Academy. This allows new students to get familiar with their surroundings and obtain a better focus on their academics, while using the main building for their electives. For the 2009-2010 school year, the FOCUS Academy began an AVID Program.

Library expansion

A new library was opened in mid-January 2009.

Sports

The football team of TCCHS has been ranked numerous times in the #1 position in the GAHSA standings. They have attended the Georgia Dome playoffs, the two most recent trips being 2003 and 2007.

TCCHS has five state championships in football, with the last one coming in 1997. TCCHS has also won eleven region championships. Four alumni have played in the National Football League

The girls' tennis team won region in 2007, and was runner-up in 2008. The boys' team was runner-up in region in both 2007 and 2008. Both teams were under retired head coach John Booth.

Rival

In south Georgia if you dont win any other games, you have to beat your rivals. Thomas County Central's rivals are 1. Thomasville High School Bulldogs (cross-town rivals/Name: Rose City Rivalry) 2. Cairo High School Syrupmakers (Name: Border War West) 3. Bainbridge High School Bearcats (The Ed Pilcher Rivalry) 4. Colquitt County High School Packers (Name: Border War North) 5. Northside-Warner Robins High School Eagles (Name: The Old Champions Rivalry) 6. Lee County High School Trojans (Name: Jacket-Trojan Rivalry). During the week of the Rose City Rivalry, pranks are pulled by students on each other and each others schools.

Choral/Drama Department

The Choral Department concerts include Thomas County Central High School's own Christmas and Spring concerts and concerts with FSU, and Georgia State University Honor Chorus Day. The TCCHS Choral Department is led by Mrs. Chenez.

The Drama Department, led by Mr. Joshua Mimbs, produces four to five plays a year, including a musical.

Band

The Thomas County Central marching, concert, and jazz band, under the leadership of Michael Mayhall, and the new assistant director, Tyler Lipsey, attend every Thomas County football game, where they take part in every half-time show as well as playing in the stands. Other events are a yearly Christmas concert, spring concert, fall concert, and Marching Band Jamboree throughout the school year. In the 2007-2008 school year the Thomas County Central Marching, Concert, Jazz, and Wind Ensemble attended the Disney Music festival, taking first in multiple categories including Marching band, Jazz Band, and taking first and third in the overall event.
