) from 1862 to 1885. Abbot Hall (attached to Mason Hall) in the Red Cedar residential complex is named in his honor, as is Abbot Road in East Lansing

In 1857, Abbot became the first principal of the Ann Arbor Union School, the first public school to serve the entire city of Ann Arbor, Michigan
