When the Audit Bureau of Circulation's updated circulation numbers were released on April 28, 2008, The Times was listed as the fastest-growing English-language paper in the country with circulation of more than 50,000 daily, posting a 3 percent gain year-over-year. The Times sports section was named a Top 10 daily section in 2007 by the Associated Press Sports Editors and it was named Indiana's Best Sports Section by the Hoosier State Press Association.

History

The paper was founded on June 18, 1906, as The Lake County Times. Its founder, Simon McHie, was a native of a small town along the Niagara River in Canada. In 1933, the name was changed to The Hammond Times, and it became an afternoon paper serving Hammond
