. It is managed by SquareOne Entertainment LLP who took over the venue in July 2008. Previous to this it had been run by Essex County Council. Since taking over, SquareOne have reopened the venue to a wider audience, removing many of the restrictions and policies put in place by Essex County Council that were intended target the venue at a younger demographic.

Since taking over the venue, SquareOne have hosted a diverse programme and have seen a mix of acts grace the stage including Little Man Tate, Wilko Johnson, Yeti, Newtown Neurotics, Iglu & Hartly and comedian Omid Djalili. Omid's performance was part of the monthly comedy night. The Square opens to the public for live entertainment on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The bar is also open during the day Wednesday to Sunday. The long term future of the building is uncertain, as plans for redevelopment have been mentioned, though no timescale has been given
