Kath Thomas became the school's principal in February 2004. In February 2008, Ofsted published an inspection report describing the school as "outstanding". Later the same year, The Oldham College was awarded Beacon Status

. The government announced in April 2008 that The Oldham School would receive funding to rebuild, however due to budget cuts in mid-2009 it was one of 160 schools to have their funding stopped.

The college offers a wide range of courses aimed at 16–19 year olds, adults and businesses through the colleges dedicated Business training centre Pennine House in Oldham town centre. The college offers a learning environment featuring industry standard facilities and the college has close links with many local, regional and national businesses which enrich and broaden the courses offered by the college, preparing students for progression into employment and higher education.

The college offers a range of IT vendor qualifications including CompTIA A+, N+ and Cisco CCNA.

A 2008 report by Ofsted

found that 82% of the school's 8,000 students attended full time. The Oldham College provides a range of vocational courses including option in hair and beauty, visual arts, and hospitality, which were amongst the most popular subject for full-time students.
