The Muslim Philanthropy Digital Library (MPDL) seeks to make widely available a repository
of the world’s knowledge on all forms of philanthropy
as expressed through original documents, reports, graphics, waqf
registrations, as well as scholarly analysis in Muslim- majority countries and communities worldwide.
MPDL covers material from 1900 to the present. It encompasses the diverse cultural, political and social factors influencing the practice of philanthropy as well as the significant contributions from across Muslim-majority countries to contemporary global philanthropic practice.
The project is a joint undertaking of the American University in Cairo
(John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement and the Center of Excellence for the Middle East and Arab Cultures, AUC Library), and Indiana University (The Center on Philanthropy).
The International Development Research Centre of Canada
has provided start-up funding for the library in Cairo.
Today, the Center boasts a thriving research program that informs the work of nonprofit professionals throughout the world. Academic programs related to philanthropy and nonprofit management are attracting from a diverse group of highly talented students. And The Fund Raising School continues to be the premier international university-based education and training program for fundraisers.
