The inspiration for the charity was Raj Loomba’s late mother, Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba, who on 23 June 1956 became a widow, aged just 37, in the Punjab in India
. Although she had never received any formal schooling herself, she succeeded in educating her seven children single-handed.
