. It is written by and for students, and currently has over 50 working members. The first issue of the publication was launched in 2009 at the University of York Students’ Union

 (YUSU) Freshers' Fair. It was created by student Joe Regan and in its first year was edited by him and fellow student Ryan Fitzgerald, and released once a term, producing three issues. The magazine, in its own words, is "York's longest running satire magazine". All content aims to be satirical or humorous and to deal with items of both campus and wider interest. Despite being originally conceived as an outlet for humour, satire and creative writing, the more recent issues of the magazine focus solely on humour and satire. The Lemon Press is a ratified society within YUSU. It is funded jointly by a yearly grant from YUSU and by advertising revenue. The Lemon Press also has a website, thelemonpress.co.uk, which was launched in February 2010 and which is updated regularly with news and features not included in the magazine.

Current Information

The Lemon Press society is currently chaired by Charles Deane, and the magazine is edited by Jamie Gallimore and Craig Dobson. The publication currently includes 'News', 'Campus', 'Politics', 'Lifestyle', 'Entertainment', 'Arts' and ‘Science and Technology’ sections. The back cover, and the first few inside back pages of the magazine, were originally themed and constituted the beginning of a spoof
Parody

 magazine which has to be read upside-down. In more recent issues however, this space has been variously been given over to either advertising or full-page features. Other features of the magazine include fake advertisements for consumer goods, by-lines at the top of pages containing spurious facts, 'News in Brief' stories and cartoons. During the 2010/11 academic year, the magazine switched from a three-issue-a-year schedule to include two more, one extra in the Autumn and Summer terms, however this was reduced to four in the subsequent 2011/12 year, though more colour pages were introduced. The magazine has currently produced nine issues.

Awards

The Lemon Press won the 2010 National Union of Students (NUS) Award for ‘Best Student Media’, having existed for only one year. The magazine had been shortlisted alongside another University of York

, which were founded in 1964 and 1947 respectively. The Lemon Press was also shortlisted for 'Best Society Newcomer' at the YUSU Awards 2010.
