) who wishes every day could be the last day of summer vacation. Soon after, he gets hit in the head and then wakes up during the same day again and again. To make it to tomorrow, he must dodge and overcome every obstacle that comes his way.
The film begins with Luke preparing for a sleepover with his best friends, A.J. and Riley. The date is August 31, the second to last day of summer vacation. Luke and his pals are going into their first year of middle school and, if that weren't stressful enough, he has his older sister, Diana constantly worrying him with the dangers of junior high. She warns him of the bully, Meat, who is a constant threat to incoming sixth graders. Luke waves it off and goes to his friend's house for a sleepover. The following morning, the kids chat in their tent about the big step into sixth grade and what will wait for them there. Afterwards, they go to a carnival, where they run into Luke's crush, Alice Keefe. Like most children do, he doesn't know what to say and ends up looking foolish. Luke and his friends go to get something to eat where they have their first encounter with Meat and his friends, who do nothing more than steal their food and warn them of the life that will proceed them when they ascend into middle school. Next, they proceed to the skate park, where they see their idol, an experienced skater named Snake, who is extremely talented at skating and speaks a language similar to English. Snake gives the boys some advice about riding before they leave the park. Meanwhile, at the carnival, the town's annual talent show is about to be held. Luke and his friends are in a band called, Steel Monkey, and are scheduled to perform during the talent show. Luke, along with A.J. and Riley, are nervous about screwing up during the show and looking even worse in middle school. Luke wishes that the day would never end, that he could do all he wanted with his final day of summer. Seconds later, while Luke is helping return a frisbee to its owner, he is accidentally hit in the head with a piece of wood. When Luke recovers, he finds himself in the same tent he woke up in that morning. After he lets out a scream and wakes his friends up, he discovers nobody else has gone back in time with him, thus making him seem crazy when he tries explaining the situation to his friends. Throughout the movie, many things cause him to re-do the day many times.
Luke repeats the day at least 8 times. He then finally makes it to the concert without getting hit by the large board, and Luke with his friends sing a song on stage, receiving generally positive feedback from the audiences. However, a chipmunk on top of the stage falls down and knocks Luke out. The movie ends when he wakes up on the first day of school, only to have to stay home. His friends then come over before school starts, and talk to him. The movie closes when Luke sees butterflies flying past the window.

He learns that the date is September second, and he has stayed home because of the head injury he attained from the chipmunk. A.J. and Riley visit him in his room and assure him that middle school is nothing they can't handle, and with this knowledge, Luke is ready for his first day of school.

First Do-over
Luke wakes up in the tent, completely surprised about his situation. He and his friends go to the carnival, where he again looks foolish in front of Alice. When he goes to eat lunch, he succeeds in avoiding Meat, but invokes his anger when he accidentally trips another kid, causing him to spill ice cream on Meat. Luke, A.J. and Riley split up and try to lose the bullies. When Luke finally loses Meat and his thugs, he heads to the skate park, where he tries to impress Snake by skating in the bowl, but instead ends up wiping out, making the skateboard hit himself in the crotch. Luke is hit again with the piece of wood.Second Do-over
Luke again wakes up in the tent, where he tries his best not to go through the same conversation again. They all head to the carnival, where Luke looks more foolish than ever in front of his crush, claiming that she and her friend, Dory are 'Martians'. Next, Luke purposely sits where Meat will go for a chance to talk to him. Luke tries to talk to Meat about his possible dysfunctional home life (proposed reason for Meat's cruelty by Riley in the first reality.) Sadly, this only angers Meat more and causes him to chase Luke and his friends. Luke escapes them by hiding under a carnival tent. When he stands up, he runs into Alice, where he tries to act humorous by insulting a future teacher, who unfortunately ends up standing right behind him. When at the skate park, Luke again tries and fails at skating in the skate bowl to impress Snake. Luke is knocked in the head when he trips over his skateboard and hits the ground.Third Do-over
The third do-over shown is when Luke and his pals go on a ferris wheel, where they are seated below Alice and Dory, where they decide to dump soda on Luke and his friends. Afterwards, Luke again angers Meat and eludes him by hiding under the tent with Alice in it. Luke doesn't insult the teacher and tries to talk to Alice again. Luke is again knocked in the head just before the talent show.Fourth Do-over
After many, many times of reliving the same day over and over again, Luke is shown sitting on the ground, next to a tree, desperately trying to plead his situation to A.J. When the frisbee lands in the spot it landed at in the previous do-overs, Luke is not over there, so the owner gets it, which causes him to get hit by the wood. When it seems as if nothing can cause another do-over, a comet plummets to Earth and hits Luke as he is sitting under the tree.Fifth Do-over
In this do-over, Luke visits the butterfly tent while Meat uses one of the carnivals port-a-potties. Luke steps in right after Alice does and chats with her. Thankfully, this attempt at flirting with her isn't an awkward one. Alice decides to show Luke a secret room of the tent filled with live butterflies which belong to the teacher he previously insulted. It is here that Luke learns of Alice's fondness of butterflies. Just before Alice leaves, she says that she thinks Luke is a cool kid for having the courage to perform on-stage with his band. In this do-over, Luke makes good progress with his crush, not that it will leave an impact on her come tomorrow.Sixth Do-over
The beginning of this do-over includes Luke getting back at Meat as he is in the port-a-potty. He puts a walkie-talkie under the toilet seat and uses it to scare Meat as he is on the toilet. While Meat is distracted, Luke ties a fire hose to the back of a truck and throws the opposite end on the top of the port-a-potty. As the truck leaves, it makes the port-a-potty tip, causing the toilet water to go all over Meat. Luke then tells Meat's mother, who he meets while his mother was doing face paintings at the carnival, that her son had an accident. In the process, he learns that Meat's real name is in fact, 'Melvin'. What happens next is how Luke actually succeeds in impressing Snake at the skate park. After leaving the tent early, Luke heads to the skate park and competes against another skater in a series of obstacles. When Luke comes out on top, Snake and his team embrace him into their group, much to the dismay of A.J. and Riley. They complain that Luke is not traveling back in time every day, but instead lying to them, his true best friends. Luke is ashamed for what he has done.Seventh Do-over
The sequence begins with Luke sitting on a bench, saddened by the fact that he cannot make anything right, or if he could, would it even make any difference because he keeps redoing the same day. Diana runs to the bench on her jogging route and allows Luke to explain the situation to her. He takes Diana to the carnival, where he points out all of the events that are about to happen, which subsequently do. After convincing his sister that he is telling the truth, she tells him that he should try to make a difference the next time he has a do-over by telling Alice how he feels about her. Luke takes her advice.Last Do-over
Luke wakes up with Riley and A.J. once more and lives out the day with them, and in the process finally getting Meat off their backs by threatening to reveal his true name to the entire student body if he doesn't stop bullying kids. He meets his secret crush in the butterfly tent. When they go into the butterfly room for the second time, Luke reveals to Alice that he likes her and is looking forward to going to school with her. Meanwhile, Riley and A.J. are at the talent show, watching their competition and waiting for Luke to arrive. Luke sits under the same tree as before, about to give up the pressure of the talent show. The little girl who Luke previously taught to 'keep pedaling' on her new bicycle arrives and returns the favor by giving Luke the same piece of advice, which empowers him to play in the talent show. Luke arrives just in time to play in the show, just as they are about to go on. Luke has difficulty at first, but the encouragement of all of the people in the crowd give him the strength to proceed. The band plays an excellent song and receive applause from everybody in the crowd, even Meat. Just as Luke is enjoying his applause, a chipmunk (who appears to be re-living the same day with Luke, and has gotten tired of A.J. flatulatingFlatulence
