Encyclopedia
The Henderson International School is a private pre-K through 8th grade college preparatory school located in Henderson, Nevada
, United States
. It was also a high school until 2010.
In August 1999, Warren-Walker added an additional campus located at 1165 Sandy Ridge Avenue, Henderson, Nevada, 89052. This additional campus allowed Warren-Walker to expand classes from preschool through High School (Pre-12). Warren-Walker was governed by a Board of Directors made up of parent volunteers through 2006.
During the fall of 2005, the Board of Directors was approached by Meritas LLC, a newly-formed educational venture seeking to build a family of private schools around the world. At the time, Meritas owned one school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the North Broward Preparatory School. After considering the benefits that Meritas offered, e.g., professional management, capital improvements, and a growing array of travel opportunities for students, the Board of Directors approved the sale.
Immediately after the sale, Meritas hired two seasoned school leaders to assume the roles of President and Head of School. Over the course of the first ten months, Meritas invested over $4M in a new athletic field for the Upper School, technology upgrades for both campuses, a new pool, an outdoor café, a school store, a digital media studio for high school students, and a number of new teachers. In addition, the new leaders introduced the International Baccalaureate program into the middle school curriculum and performed a thorough review of the curriculum to determine critical needs.
The Henderson International School Upper School campus has grown in the last 18 months to include new athletic fields, a 6-lane pool, an outdoor café, and a new bookstore. Two additional buildings are now under construction: a dining hall and a new high school classroom building. The Sunridge Park campus is located 1/10 of a mile north of the Upper School on Sandy Ridge Avenue. Sunridge Park just completed a 17-room expansion that will allow it to serve 255 Pre-School-age children and 375 students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade. Finally, the Windmill campus, located at Windmill Parkway and Green Valley Parkway serves 300 students in Kindergarten through 4th Grade. The campus now offers a new athletic field.
