The school has student government, the school council, which was established in 1969. Two representatives from each tutor group are elected to represent the views of the tutor group in the council meetings.

Closure

In 2007 Hertfordshire County Council statutory notice for the closure of The Heathcote School in August 2012. The last intake for year 7 students was in 2008. Keystage 3 students transferred to other local schools in 2010. Keystage 4 students will remain at the school until it closes in 2012.
