 is chair of the advisory council of the institute. THIGJ was founded as an independent centre of expertise, dedicated to the promotion of knowledge of law and justice as the basis of and in relation to peace, security and social and economic development. The objective is to develop an integrated approach towards issues where the lack of law and justice could lead to political, military, social or economic instability and inequality.
The Dutch government is providing 17 million euros of FES money (income from natural gas) as a starting grant. Other founding partners are: Carnegie Foundation, Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL), International Institute of Social Studies of Erasmus University Rotterdam
