The Diamond Registry

In 1961, Joseph Schlussel started selling diamonds as a dealer. In 1968, he started one of the first publications devoted to the Diamond Industry -- The Diamond Registry Bulletin. The Bulletin was published for 40 years and covered many different topics of interest to the Diamond Industry such as the rise of "conflict diamonds" and "supplier of choice".

Joe was one of the early adopters of the internet. His first venture revolved around setting up an "intranet" for loose diamond buyers and diamond wholesalers. After realizing what the Internet could be, he transformed his intranet and placed it on the WWW. His goal was to set up a website where the public could become informed and gain transparency into wholesale diamond prices. Wholesale diamond prices by cut, clarity, and size are regularly updated and can be viewed at http://diamondregistry.com/price.htm. His early adoption of selling diamonds online was quoted in a 2004 Washington Post article.
"Joseph L. Schlussel, a diamond wholesaler in New York, thinks a one-on-one relationship is important in diamond sales, but he is hedging his bets. His site, Diamondregistry.com, designed for selling to diamond dealers and brick-and-mortar jewelers, now also sells to individuals."

The Diamond Registry connects buyers instantly to hundreds of diamond suppliers by using its own membership network of participating cutters and importers both in the United States and worldwide. By openly reporting wholesale diamond prices, The Diamond Registry assures that the customer can get the best possible value from today's market with the use of intensive personal analysis, clear diamond prices, help with How to Buy a Diamond, and an exacting examination of gems from competing world sources. In its role as the link between the numerous manufacturers and traders in the diamond world, The Diamond Registry has become known as the "matchmaker" of the industry.
