The Delay Museum
Encyclopedia
The Delay Museum is an art format created by the French format artist Thierry "Colonel" Geoffroy
. It was originally part of the format 'Emergency Room'
and was activated for the first time at the PS1 Gallery at the New York Museum of Modern Art in 2007.
' are, after 24 hours, transferred to the 'Delay Museum' where they are presented as “yesterday’s art”. The art works are delayed; they are no longer current from the 'Emergency Room'’s point of view, but nevertheless topical, especially when compared to critical art displayed in classic, curated exhibitions, whose preparation and production take much longer. As well as in the 'Emergency Room
', different practices are present in the 'Delay Museum'; for instance cross-media artists with abstract painters or sculptors.
'.
Since the works are still very recent but too uncontemporary to be in the 'Emergency Room', the 'Delay Museum' seeks to point out the misuse of the word contemporary; while the Emergency artist will consider the works outdated and delayed, the modern art observer will find the 'Delay Museum' more contemporary and temporal than any other museum.
The art works no longer aim to discuss topics of today but are presented in order to give the modern art observer the opportunity to study the aesthetic of emergencies and to demonstrate that great art works can be produced within the conditions of 'Emergency Rooms
