History
The courier began in 1855 as "The Star", published three times a week. In 1865, it was renamed the "Ballarat Star" before becoming the "Ballarat Courier". The paper changed to a daily format in 1867 as the "Ballarat courier and district mining and general reporter" before being renamed to "The Ballarat Courier" from 1869 and finally being shortened to "The Courier" in 1944.The newspaper is most famous for its involvement in an infamous Communist scandal in the 1950s.
