and he seeks to avenge Hui. Ting Lik sends Kwai-cheung to hunt down those responsible for murdering Hui and that leads to a series of killings.

At the same time, Ting Lik is depressed after receiving news that his lover, Fung Ching-ching, has become a nun. He decides to find another girlfriend, whom he has no romantic feelings for, just to cheer his mother up. By coincidence, Ting Lik meets Chu Yin-yin and he falls in love with her. Just as their relationship is developing well, a gentlemanly and wealthy businessman named Tik Wan-chi appears and Chu Yin-yin becomes attracted to Tik Wan-chi. The three of them are thus drawn into a complex love triangle.

Actually, Tik Wan-chi's immense wealth comes from secret financial support by the Japanese. Tik Wan-chi invites Ting Lik to become his business partner and Ting Lik reaps great rewards from their co-operation. However, Tik Wan-chi's goal is to pave a path for the Japanese to take control of Shanghai.

Ting Lik eventually learns of Tik Wan-chi's background after co-operating with him for some time. He is also shocked to discover that Tik Wan-chi is actually the mastermind behind Hui Man-keung's assassination. Ting Lik enters a dilemma on whether to kill Tik Wan-chi. He intends to kill Tik Wan-chi to avenge his friend and prevent the Japanese from taking over Shanghai. However, he is also hesitant when he sees that Chu Yin-yin truly loves Tik Wan-chi and when he feels that he does not want to lose Tik as a business partner. Eventually, Ting Lik decides to turn against Tik Wan-chi to uphold justice and his decision will cause a major conflict in Shanghai.
