The Barclay School Karting team has been around since 1971.

In May 2009, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary.

The school review board Ofsted in mid 2009 rated Barclay "satisfactory".

The school also contains a large bronze statue by Henry Moore

; 'The Family Group' was placed at the school's main entrance and is now inside and can be seen in the front of the school.

It is the first purpose-built secondary school constructed anywhere in the country after the Second World War. The accommodation will be transformed within five years as part of the government's Building Schools for the Future programme.

The school is also well known for its open riser stairs, being some of the first in the country.
