History

The Academy at Lincoln was opened on February 24th, 1959. When Lincoln was opened it was opened as a junior high school. The school was originally opened at its current location of 1016 Lincoln st. across from Dudley High School

. The land that the school is built on was purchased by the county on April the 1st, 1948 and additions to the school were made in 1948, 1949, 1954, 1960, 1961, and 1962. The school was named after the United States 16th president, Abraham Lincoln

. The school was named for Lincoln under the 1922 policy of the Greensboro board of Education that required all public schools within the city limits to be named after "outstanding people in various walks of life."

 year schedule. The instructional day is from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday-Friday. The School is a magnet school for the Very Strong Needs (VSN) program,performing arts and global studies. The school is notable for its VSN program which makes it one of the top schools in the county, requiring a 97th percentile score or above on standardized end-of-year tests to gain entry. Performing Arts

The Academy at Lincoln offers a performing arts program that allows students to explore classes in music, theater, and visual art.

The Academy at Lincoln offers many music related classes such as Band, Chorus, Orchestra, and Piano that are offered to grades 6th,7th, and 8th. The school also offers Guitar for those in the 7th, and 8th grades. In addition to music related arts The Academy at Lincoln also offers Dance, Theater, and Visual Art for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Global Studies

The Academy at Lincoln offers a global studies program that allows students to explore classes such as international dance, Spanish, and international cuisine. The program builds off of the one offered at Brooks Global Studies Extended-Year Magnet School, although attending Brooks previously is not required. The school offers International Cuisine as well as International Dance for grades 7th and 8th. Spanish is also offered with level 1A being offered in 7th and in 8th grade Spanish 1B and Spanish 1A&B is offered.

Very Strong Needs Program

The Very Strong Needs (VSN) Program at The Academy at Lincoln is a program that lasts from 4th to 8th Grade. The VSN program takes the highest academic students in Guilford County Schools

. Students in the program skip a grade in math and work through the curriculum of all of the other courses very rapidly allowing time for more expansion on what is being learned. The 4th and 5th grades at Lincoln are devoted solely to the VSN program.

Debates

The 8th grade VSN at The Academy at Lincoln debates once a quarter at the beginning of each quarter. These students participate in formal debates. There are two classes of 26 students each the classes are divided into 4 different debate resolutions with two teams of three competing on that resolution, the five resolutions are the same between both classes. In the fourth round of debates the classes compete against each other and there are 10 resolutions total.
