Tentative Channel Designation is a term used by the Federal Communications Commission
to refer to TV channel
assignments that represent the channels that TV stations
must use after the analog cutoff, completing the transition to Digital television
in the United States
. These channels are determined through a multiple round procedure involving elections by the TV stations themselves, usually either their original analog channel, or their transitional digital channel. The FCC accepts or rejects these elections depending on conflicts that may exist. The FCC has published periodic Report and Order documents with attachments listing the Tentative Channel Designations as of that date.
