Tennessee State Route 153

Tennessee 153 is a state highway in Chattanooga. It runs from Interstate 75
a few miles east of the I-75/I-24
interchange, to US 27 just south of Soddy-Daisy. The route serves as a bypass around downtown Chattanooga for I-75 travelers heading towards US 27 north. It is also an important route for drivers from Soddy-Daisy, Hixson
, and other parts of northwestern Hamilton County
trying to reach I-75 and the eastern half of the county. It is also an important to link to the TVA
Chickamauga Dam
, which the highway crosses on the Wilkes T. Thrasher Bridge.
Beginning at I-75, the route is a limited-access freeway to just north of the Chickamauga Dam. It then transitions to a mostly six-lane surface route that is the major commercial center of the Hixson community. Northgate Mall, Chattanooga's second and oldest continuously-operating, is located on TN 153 in Hixson. In recent years other major retailers, such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Academy Sports have built along the highway.
