Rugby union was first played in Tenby around 1876 when several clubs were recorded as playing in the town. In 1898 one of these teams, the Tenby Swifts gained membership to the Welsh Football Union

Modern game

Tenby United RFC now play in the structured WRU leagues with a second XV playing in the Worthington Leagues. Tenby United build their current squads through promoting local talent through their junior and youth teams.
