History

Telenorte appeared in 1982, after privatization of the television network owned by the Catholic University of the North into a single channel. The original channel started in 1966, in Antofagasta

, called Red Educativa de la Universidad del Norte (Educational Network of the University of the North). The network was to come to other cities in the following years.

After creation of the network came an era of transmissions originating with Canal 13

 in Santiago de Chile via microwave transmission. Programs were broadcast live, such as Sábado Gigante

In 1995, Universidad Católica del Norte ceased to be owner and when ownership passed into the hands of Compañía Radio Chilena S.A.

The network entered into bankruptcy, closing studios in Iquique
