Techkriti is the annual inter-collegiate Technical and Entrepreneurship festival of IIT Kanpur. Etymology

The word ‘Techkriti’ is composed of two words, ‘Tech’ in English which stands for Technology and ‘Kriti’ in Hindi stands for Creation, hence, the word ‘Techkriti’ signifies creation or innovation in technology.

History

Techkriti was conceived in the year 1995 and since then it has grown into one of the largest technical festivals in Asia. Over the years, it has evolved as a brand name and has hosted of some of the most famous exhibitions, workshops and speakers from India and abroad.

Techkriti 07

Techkriti 2007 was held at IIT Kanpur campus from February 22 to 25, 2007. The event was branded as Techkriti Oh-Seven!. The event witnessed an Air Show by the "Akash Ganga' team of Indian Air Force as part of the closing proceeds.

Techkriti 08

Techkriti 08 was held from 14 to 17 February 2008, and had a participation of more than 150 colleges. Keynote presentations were given by Peter Grünberg

Techkriti 10

Techkriti 2010 was held from February 11 to 14, 2010, with IIT Kanpur celebrating its Golden Jubilee, this year’s festival featured individual Dr Nikolaos Mavridis, developer of the World's first Arabic speaking humanoid robot and also the Facebots robot, which can use facebook information in holding conversations with friends.
This was the first edition of Techkriti after Megabucks, the annual entrepreneurship festival of IIT Kanpur was amalgamated in it, adding entrepreneurship aspects to the festival.

Techkriti 11

Techkriti 2011 was organized from February 17 to 20, saw over 1,500 students from various colleges taking part in the 27 events with total prize money of Rs 22 lakh at stake.

Competitions like unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise control, robots got talent, robogames , simulation game on the great wall of China, reactable (musical user interface), interactive floor, interactive robots, the aero modelling events, Innovate - design events (including Junkyard Wars, Rube Goldberg, Tremor etc) were the featured. Speakers and guests included Vladimir Voevodsky (Russian mathematician), Bruce E Melnick (Astronaut NASA), Michael Gratzel, a designer of Millau Viaduct-a bridge designed in France which has a height of 373 meters, David Bismark-developer of E Voting machines, Ashish Gupta, Managing Director, Hellion Ventures, Chander Baljee, founder Royal Orchid Hotels took part in the talk shows.

Techkriti 12

Techkriti 2012 is scheduled to be held from 27th to 30th January 2012. This year the festival is based on a theme of 'Technology for the Future'.

Techkriti 2012 will be a bundle of Competitions, talks, exhibitions, shows and workshops. Prizes worth Rs. 25 Lacs are at stake in the various competitions to be organized which include SocCon, IDEAS, Wild Soccer, Scimatex, TakeOff, J.K. White Design Challenge, Robogames, Software Corner, Battlefield, ECDC, Insight, Endeavour, Gearloose, Junkyard Wars, Rube Goldberg, Tremor, Eureka, IORC, Stocksim, IOPC, Crypto, Episteme, Radioactive, Cosmos and many more.

SocCon, the latest addition to the plethora of the fest, is the flagship competition of this year. The competition truly materializes the
theme as it involves finding a problem being faced by our society and developing a technical solution to that problem. The event will be held in three rounds with the final round requiring the participants to present a working model of their idea.

Apart from the competitions, many eminent personalities will be taking part in talk, shows to be organized during the fest, interacting with the students and sharing their experiences. Exhibitions will also be organized and professional performances will further increase the entertainment quotient of the festival.

Workshops at Techkriti will be conducted by professionals from industry, guests and faculty members of IIT-Kanpur who will provide a platform for strong academia-industry interaction and help students learn and appreciate the real fun in learning.
