Published since May 5 1948 as bi-weekly, four years later it became monthly, then periodical. Second period of publication started on November 7, 1963 (3000 copies each issue). Tchahakir was published by Aida Serovbian and Sargis Balayan, and its literary section was edited by Armen Dadour. Currently the editor is Avetis Movsesian.
