Midway through the 2003-04 season the senior amateur competition folded due to rising public liability insurance costs and dwindling player numbers. In late 2009 a new senior competition was established.

2010-2011 Competition

A Gala Day with teams with senior and under 17s from throughout the island was held at Rugby Park Hobart on 16 October 2010.

The Hobart Senior Competition commenced on 6 November 2010.

2009 Competition

Through the efforts of local 7HO FM Radio Personality Jason 'Wolfie' Wolfgram (President 09/10), and in conjunction with ARL Rugby League Development Officer, Graham McNaney, a Public Forum was held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor

in Hobart on Thursday June 25 2009 to re-establish Rugby League in Hobart.

A summer competition between teams from Southern Tasmania was held from November 2009 until February 2010. The four teams in the initial revised competition were:
Hobart Tigers;
Northern Suburbs Broncos;
Eastern Thunder; and
Southern Rabbitohs

The competition was hard fought and all the teams were competitive. The Grand Final was held at Hobart Rugby Park on 20 February 2010 between the Hobart Tigers and Eastern Thunder. The Tigers won 54-14 and they became the inaugural competition premiers.

2003-2004

Prior to the competition folding there was a four-team Hobart competition between:
  • Eastern Suburbs Panthers
  • Hobart City Tigers
  • Sandy Bay Falcons
  • Derwent valley Sharks

1996-1997

Between 1994 and 1997, the Tasmanian Rugby League ran a state-wide competition which included the above plus the following three teams:
  • Launceston Clippers (Played through the Australian Maritime College)
  • North-West (Based in Burnie)
  • Smithton


During this period the Tasmanian Rugby League ran a Northern Tasmanian vs Southern Tasmanian competition.

Ben Mckinnon from the Launceston Clippers is the only player to have won the statewide best + fairest on two occasions both in his debut season in 1995 and then again in 1997.
