team representing the Taranaki Region of New Zealand
and currently competes in the Hawke Cup
.
Taranaki as a representative team played as early as 1877, later first playing first-class cricket
in 1883 against Auckland at the Auckland Domain
, with their first-class debut ending in a heavy defeat with Taranaki being dismissed for scores of 63 and 55. The team would next appear in first-class cricket nine years later with a fixture against Hawke's Bay
. Six further first-class appearances followed, with them appearing in first-class cricket for a final time in 1898 against Canterbury at Bayly Park, Hawera
. Taranaki appeared eight times in first-class cricket, winning once, losing six and drawing once. Taranaki played all their home first-class matches at Bayly Park.
Taranaki today competes in the Hawke Cup, which is played below first-class level. The Taranaki Cricket Association is based at the New Plymouth Boys' High School
