In March 2008 Tane became frustrated and left music school. Tane became interested in nursing and discussed this with James Scott.
On April 14, 2008 Tane was seriously injured after being hit by Wiremu's car, which Wiremu lost control after a drag race
. Tane's spine was seriusly injured and he was told he would need to use a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Both Tane and Wiremu attempted suicide after this revelation but both kept their lives.
In early August, Tane returned from the spinal unit at Central Hospital. On August 4 he had a one night stand with Sophie McKay who he referred her as his 'girlfriend' but he soon realised that it wasn't meant to be. Tane left to go to a spinal unit in Christchurch.
Tane returned in early 2009 with revenge on his mind, he humiliated and upset Sophie McKay which in turn upset orderly Rose, who he had a crush on. Tane began working at the hospital with a special wheelchair which made him able to stand and work as a nurse. Ingird Campbell was initially disgusted at him, but after seeing his great work ethic, Ingrid apologized. Tane soon left for further training at Nursing School.

Tane first arrived in Ferndale with his cousin Wiremu Potae to live with his uncle TK Samuels in July 2007 just after the death of Claire Solomon. Tane and Wiremu left for awhile but later returned in October to attend music school.Tane got a job as an orderly at Shortland Street but got in trouble after stealing a wheelchair for busking. In December Tane discovered a message from the Ferndale Strangler on his cart.In March 2008 Tane became frustrated and left music school.
