municipal administration (TMA). The population of the city was estimated 50,000 in 2010. It has three high schools and two colleges for boys and girls. There is a district hospital and a garden known as Bilal Shaheed Park. The park was named after Captain Bilal Shaheed of this city, who fought during 1971 India-Pakistan war and was decorated with Sitara-e-Jurrat, a Pakistan Military award.
Before the partition of India and Pakistan the city was a food supply for villages and nearby areas in fact the old name of the city was Tandla Mandi (Tandla Market). In the center of the city there is a square "Mahi Chowk" which is named after a famous Sweet Shop "Mahi Sweet House" and its sweet go into other cities in the region. Famous castes of this region are: Watto, Balouch, Gujjar, Butt, Bhuttey, Mughal, shah, Syed, Toor, Sunapl, Kharal, Khichi and many others.
