Tambalane originally started as a songwriting project aside from Silverchair for Gillies would eventually become a band in 2004. They would add Greg Royal on bass and Gerard Masters on keyboards and tour Australia supporting End of Fashion

The band parted ways in the end of 2005 with Gillies returning to record the new Silverchair
