Plot summary

The story begins with Farah Oersted having a dream about when she and Reid Hershel first met Meredy, a girl from an upside down world known as Celestia. Reid Hershel, Farah Oersted, Meredy, and Keel Zeibel are currently on a journey to Mt. Farlos, from where they can go to Celestia. Reid, while hunting for food, saves Coreena Solgente. The gang then gets attacked by a woman named Marone Bluecarno. Reid, unconscious after defending his companions from Marone's attack, is kidnapped by her. Marone later reveals that she needs Reid's help to defeat a sea monster which terrorizes the Island of Belcarnu.

Reid and his reunited companions help Marone and meet several other characters including Ekusushia, Minima and Platia. They spend some time staying in Belcarnu. Keel unexpectedly finds some artifacts in the island that are related to Celestian culture. It's later revealed that Marone and everyone in Belcarnu are Celestian descendants who were shunned by Inferians long ago. Reid and his friends get involved in stopping Ekusushia's plan to destroy the Inferia Capital.

Connection with the game

The anime also features the Greater Spirits (Craymel in the game) of Inferia; they are Undine, Sylph, and Ifrit. The Greater Spirits help the characters in battle, as they do in the game. Reid's gang's fighting moves are also the same as in the game. Quickie, Meredy's pet also appears in the anime. Ras (also known as Rassius Luine) appears for a brief moment in Farah's flashback.

The anime takes place right before Reid and companions reach Mt. Farlos in the game. In the anime, they have acquired all 3 Greater Craymels of Inferia. However, there is no sign of the events in the anime happening in the game, though in one of the hidden areas of the game, an old man refers to an island inhabited by carefree individuals.

Reid is a laid back hunter, the easy going one and leader of the group. He uses a sword as his primary weapon in the anime. His characteristic ranges from compassionate, caring and skillful, to gluttonous and somewhat lazy. Reid is a good fighter and hunter, as depicted early in the first episode where Reid notices he is being followed by someone (Marone). Reid loves to lay down and calmly watch the sky; in one episode he is being disturbed while doing so and moves to various places to get a good nap (only to get showered by rain in the end). Reid is very caring about his friends although he doesn't say it. Keel himself, who usually argues with Reid, says that Reid is a kindhearted person. Reid proves this by helping Marone protect the people and island of Belcarnu, helping Corina and comforting Meredy. In comparison to his game version, he is essentially the same.
  • Farah Oersted (ファラ・エルステッド)
  • Age: 17
  • Origin: Faraway Village Rasheans, Inferia
  • Voice: Yuko Minaguchi

A childhood friend of Reid who is an accomplished martial artist. She cooks for the group and often gets angry when Reid steals from their food stock (angry enough to use her martial arts on him). She has deep feelings for Reid and is jealous when he is with Marone. Earlier in the anime, Farah made Corina run away from the village in a middle of storm. She later rescues her and apologizes for her attitude. She also becomes Marone's best friend later in the anime, after fighting with her about several things. Her personality is a lot different from the game version, as she seems to be quite domineering toward the whole party and has quite the nasty temper, losing her patience with her friends easily.
  • Keel Zeibel (ール・ツァイベル)
  • Age: 17
  • Origin: Faraway Village Rasheans, Inferia
  • Voice: Soichiro Hoshi

A very bright scholar of Mintche University. He was expelled from the university because of his "world destruction" theory. Keel can read and speak the Melnics language (though not fluently). In combat, Keel uses magic and has a typical sorcerer's staff for a weapon. He carries the Greater Spirits Sylph (wind elemental) and Ifrit (fire elemental). Incidentally, unless Keel calls Craymels to fight with him, he has no actual attack unlike in the game (Ifrit and Sylph use spells that Keel normally starts out with in the game).
  • Meredy (メルディ)
  • Age: 16
  • Origin: City of Craymel Imen, Celestia
  • Voice: Omi Minami

The cheerful and cute Meredy is a girl from Celestia. At first she can't communicate with Reid and friends because she only speaks Melnics. Meredy has a pet friend named Quickie, which helps her in combat (though, like in the game, not so reliably). She also uses magic and Craymels in battle. She holds Undine, the water elemental Greater Craymel Spirit. Meredy befriends Corina and is often seen with her in the anime. Much like Keel, unless she calls a Craymel, she has no method to attack opponents with (once again, a difference from the game).

Marone is a bounty hunter with a fighting style similar to Reid and Farah's (she can use both martial arts and sword techniques). She first appears to kidnap Reid then reveals her intention to defend Belcarnu by defeating a sea monster terrorizing the area. She later reveals that she's actually half Celestian and half Inferian. Marone is accompanied by a drake (a type of dragon mentioned in the game though not actually encountered by the player) called Varossa.
  • Coreena Solgente
  • Origin: Belcarnu
  • Voice: Yui Horie

is a popular Japanese singer and voice actress. She is sometimes affectionately nicknamed by her Japanese fans. She hosts a radio show called and is the founding member of the singing group, Aice5. She is also a member of the band Kurobara Hozonkai, with the name YUIEL...

Coreena always carries a banjo and sings with it. She is the daughter of Belcarnu chief, Ekusushia. When it is revealed that she has the ability to control Craymels, she finds out that she is only an adopted daughter of Ekusushia and the woman only intended to use her to get control of the Craymels. Coreena later helps Reid and friends treat the injured villagers and provides a way to fight Ekusushia with weapons held in the place she used to live when she was a kid. In the first few episodes of the anime, she tends to be the comedy relief character. A somewhat hilarious running gag seen throughout each episode is that she is quite clumsy.
