Settsu was one third of the Hawks' ever reliable relieving trio of SBM (Settsu - Brian (Falkenborg) - Mahara). Hawk's 2010 PL championship pennant was in no small part due to them.

However, with perceived weakness in the Hawks' starting rotation in 2011, and the emergence of other able relievers in Morifuku and Kattoh, Akiyama switched Settsu's role to that of a starting pitcher
