Early career

Callaghan played in many collectives and groups as a teenager growing up in Sligo and with his brother Dominic formed his first real band, called Petronella

, in around 1998. The band had some success in Ireland and their single "Feeling So Low" entered the Irish top 20 singles chart. Petronella also appeared in the TV show Star for a Night

, advised Callaghan to re-audition as a solo singer in order to proceed in the competition. Callaghan was selected by Sharon Osbourne to be one of her acts at the live finals. He finished in third place overall.

Post X Factor

After The X Factor, Callaghan participated in a fly-on-the-wall "rockumentary

" titled What Tabby Did Next which was shown ITV in August 2005, coiniciding with the release of his debut single in Ireland. The single, called "Number One", was originally titled "Holes in My Shoes" as Callaghan had announced on the rockumentary. The A-side, "Number One", was an original track penned by Callaghan himself and Mark Hudson (who had worked with him on The X Factor). The B-side was a cover of the Slade

 hit "My Oh My" which had been performed on the show. The single, only released in Ireland, entered the Irish charts at number 7 on the first week of its release.

Further singles and an album have been planned for release. A single called "King of the Town" was due for release in 2007, but never materialised.
However, Tabby has a new single "Gotta Get Control", which came out to download on the 22nd of April 2011 and reached number 20 in the download charts. Tabby is due to release an album at the beginning of 2012.
