Infrastructure

São Jorge is linked to the other villages by a good road encircling the island. Several times a day, the village can be reached by aluguer busses from São Filipe and from Mosteiros. The busses do not circulate according to a fixed schedule, as they depart as soon as there are enough passengers.

There are a school and a few small shops in São Jorge, but no hotel or guesthouse.

Ponta da Salina is close to the village. It is a small natural harbour and a bay with basalt

There is a sightworthy old cemetery, which is surrounded by a wall, close to the beach. Most of the graves have very simple wooden crosses without any names.
