The SYWoC or Student Yachting World Cup is an annual sailing competition for students which was created in 1979 and is held in France.

, a French engineering school, seeing the world's best student sailing teams confront each other in a week-long series of races.

In 2006 and 2007, more than 12 countries participated, including Japan, Portugal, Italy, USA, England, Scotland and Germany.

History

The Student Yachting World Cup (former Course de l'Europe) has been organized since 1979 by students at the École Polytechnique

. Each year, the best sailing teams from universities all around the world meet and compete in thrilling yacht races.

When the race was created in 1979, only a few European countries participated. Other teams have joined in, from Eastern Europe, Japan, the United States or Australia, thus making it a real World Cup.

Every year, the SYWoC takes place in a large French harbour (earlier editions have taken place in Lorient, Royan, Marseilles, La Trinité, Toulon ...), around All Saints' Day.

, France, from 28 October to 4 November. 13 teams participated, and after a week of thrilling races, and as memorable parties, Ireland, with its Trinity College of Dublin team, won.

The 2007 Edition took place from 27 October to 3 November 2007 in the port of La Rochelle

The 2008 Edition has taken place from October 25 to November 1, 2008 in the port of La Trinité-sur-Mer

, in the Morbihan County, France.
11 crews attended this event, coming from the USA, Japan, Norway, Scotland, Ireland, England, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, and two were from France. After 15 races of tough sailing, the Cork Institute of Technology won the cup, leading by one point in front of il Centro Universitario Sportivo Milano from Italy. Solent University, from Englang, also won the special AGPM Trophy for inshore races.
