Syncplicity

Syncplicity is a backup and synchronization service provided by Syncplicity Inc. The service allows users to store and sync files online between computers. Currently it supports Microsoft Windows and is in beta for Mac OSX.

Kinds of Accounts

Syncplicity offers three kinds of accounts: a no-cost subscription plan, a personal subscription plan, and a business edition subscription plan.

Platform support

Syncplicity moved their Windows client out of public beta on November 3, 2008.

In 2009 and early 2010, Syncplicity released beta releases of their Mac client (for Intel-based Macs) on July 9, 2009, and later in 2010.

In late 2010, they delivered a supported Mac client for Intel based Macs running version 10.6 or later of Mac OS X.

File Synchronization Service Providers & Competition

Starting around the Spring of 2008, several file synchronization and backup services launched around the same time as Syncplicity, including Live Mesh, DropBox

A user can opt to sync documents from Windows or Mac with an associated Google Docs account; however, documents uploaded to free Google Docs accounts will be converted to Google Docs file formats while non-supported documents will be omitted. Similarly, photos can also be synced with Facebook albums. Many such online services like Scribd
