Aldershot News & Mail series. The Surrey Advertiser, along with the Woking News & Mail, used to be owned by Surrey and Berkshire Media a branch of the Guardian Media. However, The Surrey Advertiser and associated papers were sold to Trinity Mirror in April while the Woking News & Mail and Review series are the only regional paper that remain with the Guardian Media Group. The Surrey Advertiser and all related Trinity Mirror Southern titles are edited by former BBC journalist Marnie Wilson.

Surrey Times Series

The Surrey Times is a series of three newspapers: the Guildford Times, Godalming Times, and the Cranleigh Times. The papers, established in 1855 and now published and printed by Surrey & Berkshire Media Ltd, are distributed free to local residents, with a verified free distribution over thirty-two thousand copies.

Cheryl Cole, the 28 year old pop star, lives in her Surrey Mansion. She has appeared in the Surrey Advertiser several times.

In 2008 the Surrey Advertiser launched a new website, Get Surrey http://www.getsurrey.co.uk, and a new jobs site, GetTheJob http://www.getthejob.co.uk featuring jobs from across Surrey and the surrounding area.

Awards

In October 2009 the Surrey Advertiser won two awards at the EDF Energy London and the South of England Media Awards 2009.

The Surrey Advertiser was joint winner of the Community Campaign of the Year award, alongside the Gravesend and Dartford Messenger.

At just under 17 months old, Get Surrey won its award at the first time of asking, the judges remarking that the website “turned a weekly into a daily”.

Trivia

The post of Dorking reporter is currently held by Guy Martin. The Stoke-on-Trent born Oliver Florence, who grew up and still lives in Elmbridge is the reporter for that area. Tooting-born Luke Jacobs is the chief reporter.

The postroom is run by Michael Underwood (who now has virgin Tivo)
